Michael escapes the realities of small-town life by immersing himself within a world of maps. But the arrival of two young women into his teen angst life, in addition to his single mother who is trying to push him out into the larger world, is driving this coming-of-age film and Michael to a new point of view. Shot at various Auckland locations, plus Takapuna and Helensville. The story is great, the acting is good, the non-linear story structure can, at times, be confusing, but the real handicap of this film is the low, low budget. I am always amazed when a feature film can successfully be made for under $1million. That said, decisions must be made that save money and thereby eat at the quality that would otherwise be present. This is not a flawless film, but still one worthy of experiencing. Recommended.
