This is a dark, gradually building, thriller about returning home and retracing history. It is a film about childhood dreams that are shattered by the reality of the world around us, but it is also about a sixteen year old girl who hungers for the world beyond her small town. When the girl goes missing, violence and truth gradually emerge from family tragedy and betrayal that has surrounded them for years. They must finally face the consequences of that silence and secrecy. Highly Recommended.

Official MP4 Trailer

AVAILABILITY OF COPIES

It is available as an R4 PAL (Warner/Icon) from Australian or NZ sources, selling for about $30nz or $24au. Special features include: optional audio commentary by director Brad McGann, producer Trevor Hayson and actor Emily Barclay; 'Possum' an award winning short film by Brad McGann; behind the scenes clips and trailer. An R4 re-release started September 8, 2010, selling for $20nz - this is a bare bones version.
It is also on an R2 PAL release, by Optimum Home Entertainment and sells for under 10#. Extras include: Interviews with Matthew Macfadyen, Brad McGann, Emily Barclay and Colin Moy; A "Making Of" featurette and optional audio commentary by Brad McGann.
Up until June 2009 it was available, in North America on R1 NTSC for $15-20us. It is now OOP, however it can still probably be found at sources such as ebay. The R1 version has optional Spanish and English subtitles. It is listed as presented in its original 2.35 format (16x9 enhanced), but I measured 2.15.
There is also an NTSC All regions version from South Korea that also has the original English, plus optional subtitles in English and Korean. It's only extra is the film's trailer. It sells for about $20us or equiv. NOTE: There is something odd about the coding. Although the feature is correctly presented in the original 2.35 format, when I play it from my player connected to my large screen, if I play it from my computer player it displays 1.76. Your best bet for finding an NTSC copy would be at ebay.
All versions come with 5.1 dolby digital audio with the R2 and R4 versions also having a 2.0 dolby digital surround option.

There is a Blu-ray version from European sources selling for 12-17eur. It is a region B coded disc. It's title is: 'Als das Meer verschwand'. It contains the same extras as the dvd and has German PCM 5.1, German DTS-HD 5.1, English PCM 5.1, English DTS-HD 5.1 audio and optional German subtitles. The audio commentary track has optional German subtitles. It is presented 2.35:1, 1080/24p. Extras include a audio commentary track with the cast and crew; behind the scenes clips and Brad McGann's short film, 'Possum'.
