Young Randy Cambell yearns to be New Zealand's greatest living stuntman, but his rocket powered BMX will not get him across Cook Strait. Years later, after many heartbreaks, Randy constructs a massive ramp and a rocket car - he still plans to jump the 15 miles across Cook Strait. Is this a suicide attempt? Does he plan to follow the path of his father and grandfather and die in a bloody, burning wreck? A splatter comedy this one, sort of a "Evil Knievel meets Bad Taste". Not for everyone, but I guarantee most everyone can find humour here, even though they may not admit it.

AVAILABILITY OF COPIES

There is an R4 PAL dvd available from various New Zealand sellers for about $20nz. An R1 ntsc version is available for about $18us. The R4 disc is presented in the original 1.78:1 with 5.1 English dolby digital sound; the R1 in 1.33:1. Extras include a commentary track; a "Behind the Scenes" (28:23) featurette; a music video (3:46); a "Director's Cut" (16:00), deleted scenes (14:43); trailer; still image gallery and a "Spinning Devil Game" and I have no idea how they added things up to a "Total Running Time: 226 minutes" that is indicated on the dvd slick.

There is a two-disc set available from German, and other European sources, that contains an all regions 1080P Blu-ray and an all regions DVD. The Blu-ray has both the original English language track (DD 2.0) and spoken German language track in DTS-HD Master 5.1 or DD 5.1. It is presented in the original 1.78:1 anamorphic format and has a German subtitle option. The DVD contains: Deleted Scenes (14:43); Behind the Scenes (12:12); Making of #1 (3:01) and Making of #2 (12:00) both with German subtitles; Three music videos; a stills gallery and trailers. It also contains a bonus film, 'Car Crash' aka: 'Midnight Spares' (85 minutes) presented 1.78:1 with German and English spoken soundtracks and German subtitles. I have no idea why this 1983 Australian 'B' flick was added. The 2-disc package sells for about 15eur.
